A Few Words About the Works on Display
All etchings were created at the Ze’ev Meir Print Institute in Kibbutz Nirim – a kibbutz located near the Gaza Strip, very close to the border, in the Eshkol Regional Council area.

“The Light Within the Darkness” depicts a somewhat dark and spartan room with a sad girl who uses her imagination to roam free. The stork symbolizes this sense of freedom. Storks pass through Israel twice a year – in the fall on their way to warmer countries, and in spring when returning to Europe.

“The Stork” conveys the sensation of the stork soaring through the skies, the air flowing and moving around its body, supporting and guiding it with purpose back to its home.

“Homeward” shows a mother carrying her child home, surrounded by a strong emotional atmosphere. The black blot and heavy lines create a sense of burden that can be interpreted in many emotional shades.

“Untitled” depicts a little girl peeking out from the darkness into a brightly lit window, as if “all the happiness in the world” is found there.
This work was inspired by the artist’s childhood in the communal child-rearing system of the kibbutz, where children saw their parents only for a few hours a day and always longed to go to their parents’ home and be with them.
