“Continue to destination or choose an alternative reality…”
Video, 24 minutes
2014
Watching “Continue to destination or choose an alternative reality…” in 2025, eleven years later, evokes a feeling of deja vu. What could have been done to prevent such a predictable future from happening?
The video, filmed during Gaza War 2014 also known as Operation Protective Edge, evokes familiar feelings: an attempt to maintain a daily routine, despite the chaotic reality happening outside, a sense of being trapped, of which unnerving memories and emotions are bursting through; all while moving constantly
Trapped in their own reality, trying to find refuge in poetry – the viewers find that they are thrown again and again into complex and familiar situations; despite the gentle and moving voices of the poets reciting their own poems.
Should we recalculate our lives’ direction? Should we continue to our destination? What is this destination? Will we find the courage, ability and the aspiration to change and choose a new reality?
And can art, which serves as a mirror reflecting our lives, can make a difference? Change anything? Make us choose a different route? And has art ever succeeded in doing so?
