Bertolt Brecht said: “Art is not a mirror that reflects reality, but a hammer with which it can be shaped.” I deeply identify with his words.
In early to mid-2023, I participated in a six-month residency at the Water Institute Gallery titled “Light in the Darkness.” This creative process engaged with the events of that year and the ongoing protests. The exhibition featured a black room with white artworks, where visitors entered one by one, carrying a portable flashlight.
After the war, I presented a solo exhibition under the same name, this time with guest artists, at the Global Art Gallery in Tel Aviv.
For me, there is no way to live without confronting the raw materials of life—both its beauty and its pain. The paintings before you express suffocation, drowning, the absence of air, homelessness, and a desperate attempt to escape from the bottomless pit of human evil.
