Oksana Alekhina | Exhibition “My Home is My Fortress”
Artist Statement
In my works, I explore the concept of home as an internal and external space – a place where vulnerability and strength, inner peace and external aggression intersect. After repatriating to Israel in late 2023, I became acutely aware of the fragility and, at the same time, the resilience of my identity. This state of transition, reflection and adaptation has become the basis of my artistic practice.
My paintings attempt to capture the moment when the “fortress” of the home is determined not by concrete walls, but by an internal feeling – an invisible shell that we carry with us, regardless of geography.
Adept TV : 2024, acrylic on canvas 60х60см
This work is a reflection on the fragility of the human self in the face of external pressure. The figure, bowed in an act of prayer, becomes a metaphor for vulnerability, loss of control and the search for support. The hovering crown is a symbol of the power of information flows over people, over their perception and feelings. The city outside the window in the sunset, serves as a backdrop to an unstable world in which the house is no longer perceived as protection, but becomes a question: what is a fortress if the walls are an illusion?
Fatal Religion: 2024, acrylic on canvas 60х60см
This work is a continuation of the visual reflection on internal vulnerability under external pressure. The fire in the background is not only the flame of the destruction of civilization, but also a symbol of media intensity, the transmission of fear and constant stress.
The picture explores the theme of information dependence, turning into a fatal “pseudo-trust” – a new religion, where the screen replaces landmarks, and the truth dissolves in ashes. Here, the house finally loses its shape, turning into a scorched field of consciousness, and the “fortress” – into an illusion of safety in the face of disaster.
WHY : 2024, acrylic on canvas 80х80см
This work explores the theme of control and manipulation in a conventionally “domestic” space. A blindfolded female figure symbolizes confusion and vulnerability. Hands invading her zone offer a choice, temptation – but do not provide clarity.
The interior turns into a cage, where the fortress does not protect, and the house is an arena for a game. In this space, you need to make a choice, learn to close your eyes to external pressure, hear yourself in order to save your home and preserve inner freedom.
Infinity : 2024, acrylic on canvas 90х90см
This work is about how to preserve your inner home based on love. The intertwined figures symbolize trust in the inner world and the state of presence.
Here the fortress is built not from walls, but from harmony – with yourself, with your family, with nature and with the Universe. In the conditions of external aggression, it is the ability to stay in contact with yourself that becomes a form of protection and a source of stability.
