AVI SPERBER

Avi Sperber is an Israeli sculptor. The primary materials in his work are marble and stone, combined with other materials.
His belief is that an artist is someone who persists in searching for the secrets of their life.
His works are based on research of a subject he selects, followed by the creation of sculptures that represent different aspects of that subject, forming a comprehensive whole that embodies the theme. His style is abstract and sometimes incorporates subtle figurative elements.
Avi Sperber has exhibited in around twenty solo exhibitions and in many group exhibitions in Israel and abroad.
In the exhibition “My Home is My Fortress”, presented in Miami, USA, on Israel’s Independence Day, two works are displayed that aim to question the theme of the exhibition: “My home is my fortress?” This is in response to the tragedy that struck the State of Israel on October 7, 2023.
One work is a photograph of a sculpture printed on fabric. The sculpture is made up of a book representing the home and the quiet, secure atmosphere within it, and the stone is the knife that cuts, tears, and destroys it.
The second work, which is not typical of his usual style, is made from printed photographs on fabric. The photos are sunsets on different days, taken from the window of his home, before and after the terrible day.
On October 7, 2023, the shutter was closed and the sunset did not appear. Yet in our cynical world, time keeps flowing, life and the sun return to their course, and each day, the sun sets once again.
